Quote: A Fresh Pair of Eyes

Does a fresh set of eyeballs help in bringing a new perspective?

“Originality is simply a pair of fresh eyes.”  Thomas W. Higginson  Much can be said for a fresh set of eyes addressing an issue or observing an organization.

Many times people within the problem can’t see the forest for the trees.  Consumed by what they do on a day-to-day basis the bigger picture is lost on them.  Occasionally, not always, a new leader coming to the organization can see things that others don’t see.  It can be their previous experiences that give them insight or “just a fresh set of eyes” on what the issues are.  Sometimes I think that the reorganization mania that happens at companies and governments is driven by the idea that if we just reshuffle the deck new faces will help.

However, when I look at how often Microsoft reorganizes I wonder if that is a truism that pans out.
