Florida Senate Confirms CIO Jason Allison

The Florida Senate confirmed the reappointment of Jason Allison as executive director of the state’s Agency For State Technology (AST) on Jan. 28. 

Allison will continue to lead the state’s effort to mature its recently reinstated tech agency and overcome what Allison called the state’s “sins of the past.” Last year, Allison helped form a new IT strategic plan, which includes a shift to cloud infrastructure and applications and a more responsive approach to procurement.

Allison began his tech leadership career in Florida in 2007, serving as MIS director at the Florida Department of Health’s Division of Disease Control, then serving in senior IT management positions at the Agency for Enterprise Information Technology, the state’s now-defunct IT arm; the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation; and the Executive Office of the Governor’s Office of Policy and Budget.

Now at AST, Allison said his agency's role is that of support. “We’re here to add value,” he said. “From here on out, it’s really just facilitating our business units and giving our CIOs what they need to carry out their agency missions.”
