“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” he said. “Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.”
Most other major social media platforms also implemented certain degrees of suspension on Trump’s accounts as well. Twitter, the platform the president uses most often, suspended his account for 12 hours, specifically citing three tweets for “severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy.” Per the BBC, the platform also stated that “Future violations of the Twitter Rules... will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account.”
YouTube has removed the video from President Trump’s channel of his statement from the White House during the riots, stating that it violated the company’s ban on election misinformation. Snapchat also suspended the president’s account, though it did not say when that suspension might be lifted.
