Home security company SimpliSafe has decided to use the popular ugly holiday sweater trend to encourage social distancing during this holiday season. In a press release Monday, the company announced its official Social Distancing Sweater.

The sweater, which has a typical ugly Christmas sweater design, acts much like a home security intrusion system, sounding alarm bells and flashing lights if anyone gets within six feet of the wearer. It has integrated motion sensors, which will activate flashing LED lights and a siren.

The company will be giving away tech-free versions of the sweater in a drawing of those who donate to the NeighborWorks America Rental Resilience Fund, which is providing relief during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the winners receive their sweaters, they can go to sweater.simplisafe.com to find out what tech they need and how to add it.

“As the experts on protection, albeit home protection, we wanted to give people a playful way to protect themselves during this year's holiday celebrations,” said SimpliSafe Creative Director Wade Devers in the announcement. “It's really meant to bring some lightheartedness to a time that's otherwise proven very stressful.”
