Many of us have joked, “that meeting could have been an email,” but it turns out that statement may be more true than we realized. Digital collaboration company Zoom recently released a report that found in-person meetings may be costing you a lot in productivity.

The report found that instant messaging is more popular for collaboration than in-person meetings for the majority of workers. In fact, it’s the least popular method for everyone except baby boomers, with workers of other generations preferring instant messaging and project management software.

However, it isn’t a good idea to turn to a host of digital tools to manage working together either. The report found teams are twice as likely to spend one or more hours resolving collaboration issues if they use 10 or more apps than those using fewer than five.
